Professor Emeritus at UFMG and Expert in Educational Assessment
Professor José Francisco Soares holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Education at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor. He is Professor Emeritus at the Federal University of Minas Gerais.
He has received special recognition from ABAVE and an award from the Bunge Foundation for his contributions to educational assessment in Brazil.
From February 2014 to February 2016, he served as President of INEP, an agency of the Ministry of Education responsible for assessing both basic and higher education. He was also a member of the National Council of Education, where he served as one of the rapporteurs for the National Common Curricular Base.
His academic work focuses on developing methodologies for measuring educational outcomes and constructing indicators of quality and equity in basic education in Brazil.
